Pearls of Wisdom

Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. (SIA) is more than a sorority; we are a family and network of professional, strong and dedicated women leaders. We are also a 501(c)7 tax-exempt organization and we work in conjunction with the Solidaridad Inspiracion Amistad Community Foundation, Inc.- a 501(c)3 Community Foundation committed to scholarship, service and professional development within Latino communities nationally.

The Solidaridad, Inspiración, Amistad Community Foundation, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization, is dedicated to uplifting Latino communities nationwide while upholding values of: education, community service, leadership and professional development. The Foundation also administers a national scholarship fund for incoming college freshmen who exhibit the values of the Foundation in their lives and who demonstrate academic merit, significant service to communities in need and exemplary leadership capabilities.

Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. as a national non-profit sorority pursues community service on three levels:

International

Children’s International

Through C.I. each of our chapters as well as alumnae sponsor young girls in Latin America.  We have sponsored impoverished children in Latin America since 1990.

National

Camp Heartland

This organization is a place where children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS can have the opportunity to leave the stigma behind them.  This camp allows children to have a worry free experience where they can bond with other children just like them.  Year-round programs such as camp reunions, newsletters and holiday mailings, youth retreats and life enhancement programs reinforce young people's sense of belonging and well-being on an ongoing basis.

Raiza J. Salvatierra Gómez
Age 5
Guayaquil, Ecuador

Raiza is the youngest of 4 children.  Her father is a laborer and her mother is a homemaker.  Their family income is only $200 per month.  The family lives in a two room home.  Through our chapter's sponsorship, Raiza's parents are able to better provide for her.
